About Organize
Organize PDF pages in one grid: every page from one or more PDFs is laid out together, labelled by source file, so you can see and rework the whole document at once. The work is done by code running in this tab and the file is never sent to a server. Reach for it to reorder pages, drop in a blank sheet, duplicate a page, or pull a handful of pages together from several files.
It changes structure only. It does not touch what is drawn on a page, crop margins, or compress file size. Use Crop PDF or Compress for those instead.
How it works
- Add one or more PDFs. Every page appears in the grid, labelled with a code for its source file and its page number in that file. Only PDFs are accepted here; use Merge if you also have images.
- Drag any page to reorder it, or use the buttons on its overlay: Enlarge, Rotate (90 degrees clockwise per click), Duplicate, Move (type the position you want) and Remove.
- Use Add pages or Add blank page to insert content after the page you last clicked, or at the end if you have not clicked one. Add files brings in whole documents at the end.
- Switch to Selection mode to click several pages (Select all, Deselect all, Invert) and Delete them together.
- Turn on Reverse order to flip the whole document, last page first.
- Click Save and download your reorganized PDF, named after the first file with -organized added, such as scan-organized.pdf.
What Organize keeps and what it drops
Pages are copied into a new document as PDF objects, not redrawn, so text, fonts and images come through unchanged. Rotating a page only changes its stored orientation, added on top of any rotation it already had. Several files always come out as one PDF.
The new document is built from pages alone, so a few things stay behind. Bookmarks are not carried over, title and author are not copied, and fillable form fields on the copied pages stop working as fields. If a form must stay fillable, do the page work in Merge instead, where the Form fields setting keeps fields working. The saved file has no password even if a source had one; Protect adds one.
How the grid behaves
Composer mode is for arranging and Selection mode is for deleting several pages at once; both work on the same page order. Move is the quick route across a long grid: type a position number instead of dragging. Duplicate inserts a copy directly after the original, and the copy can then be moved, rotated or removed on its own.
Add blank page inserts an A4 page, unless the page you last clicked is itself a blank, in which case the new one takes that blank's size. It does not copy the size of the neighbouring page. Add pages opens a picker: choose a file already added or Upload a different file, select pages in its grid or type a range in the Pages box, then click Add selected pages.
A worked example
An 8-page scan arrives with page 5 upside down and page 8 blank, and the cover sheet is a separate one-page PDF. Add scan.pdf, then use Add files to add cover.pdf. Click Rotate on page 5 twice. Switch to Selection mode, click page 8 and Delete it, then return to Composer mode. Click Move on the cover page and enter 1. Click Save. scan-organized.pdf has 8 pages: the cover, then seven scan pages with page 5 upright.
When another tool is quicker
If you already know the page numbers, single-purpose tools skip the grid work: Delete Pages removes a selection and saves the rest, Extract Pages saves a selection as a new file, and Rotate fixes sideways or upside-down pages. Organize earns its place when the job is order, such as a sequence you can only judge by looking, a repeated page, or pages blended from several files. For a password-protected PDF, run Unlock first, because the grid builds its page list when a file is added.
Frequently asked questions
Yes. Add as many files as you like and every page from every file lands in the same grid, each labelled with a code for its source file and its own page number, ready to drag into a new order. The result is always one PDF.
Click Duplicate on a page's overlay to insert a copy right after it. If a page got duplicated that you did not mean to, click Remove on the extra copy. No PDF is written until you click Save, so nothing you do in the grid changes the file you added.
Yes. Click Add blank page. It goes after the page you last clicked (or at the end) and is A4-sized, unless the page you clicked is itself a blank, in which case it takes that blank's size.
No. Pages are copied as PDF objects, not redrawn, so text, fonts and images come through exactly as they were. Rotating a page in the grid only changes its stored orientation.
It flips the whole document so the last page becomes the first. It sits on top of whatever order you have already built in the grid, so you can arrange pages first and reverse them after.
The pages are rearranged by code in your browser tab and the file is never sent to a server. Your browser does keep a Recent files list with a copy of each file under 5 MB, which you can clear from the Recent files page. Browser extensions and shared computers are outside what this page can guard against.
Yes. Switch to Selection mode, click the pages you want (or use Select all / Invert), then click Delete.
Yes. Duplicate inserts a second copy of any page, and you can place both copies wherever you like in the order.
Yes. Click Add pages, pick a file already in the tool or use Upload a different file, select the pages you want in its grid, and click Add selected pages. They are inserted after the page you last clicked.
No. The result is built from copies of the pages alone, so bookmarks are not carried over and form fields lose their fillable behaviour. Merge keeps fields working through its Form fields setting.
