About Burgundy PDF
Burgundy PDF is a PDF editor and a set of 26 everyday PDF tools that run on your own device, in this browser tab.
What this is
Merge, split, edit, sign, compress, protect, rotate, crop, number, watermark, run OCR, and convert between PDF and Word, Excel, PowerPoint, JPG, HTML and plain text. Each tool is a single page. You choose files, set the options that tool needs, run it, and download the result.
There is also a full editor at Editor for the jobs that do not fit a single step, where you can add text, draw, place images and signatures, reorder pages and fix small mistakes before you export.
Why it exists
Most of what people do to a PDF is small and slightly private. Signing a lease. Shrinking a scan of a passport. Pulling three pages out of a bank statement. The usual way to do that online is to hand the file to a stranger's server, wait in a queue, then hope it is deleted afterwards.
None of that is necessary any more. Browsers can do this work themselves. So this site does the work where the file already is, which removes the upload, the queue, the account and the question of what happens to your document afterwards.
How it works
Every tool is JavaScript and WebAssembly that your browser downloads once and then runs locally. Your document's bytes are read from disk into memory on your machine and never put into a network request. You do not have to take that on trust. The Security page shows you how to check it yourself with the browser's own network panel, in about a minute.
What it costs
Nothing, and there is no tier above it. There is no account to create, no sign-in, no trial, no page limit, no file limit beyond what your device's memory can hold, and no watermark stamped on anything you make. Features that other PDF sites keep behind a paid plan are simply here.
What it is not
It is not a storage service. Nothing you make is kept for you anywhere except your own browser, so download your results and keep your own copies. It is not a collaboration tool, and there are no shared links. It does not sign documents in the legal, certificate-based sense. Fill and Sign places a drawn, typed or uploaded signature onto the page, which is what most everyday forms ask for, but it is not a qualified digital signature.
It is also not magic on very large files. Everything happens in your device's memory, so a 1 GB scan will behave differently on a new laptop than on an old phone.
