About Extract Pages
Extract pages from a PDF in your browser, and save just the ones you choose as a brand new document, leaving everything else behind. Reach for it when you only need a signed page, a specific chapter, or every other page from a longer file.
Pages are copied exactly as they are, never rasterised or recompressed, so text stays selectable. The rest of each source file is untouched and never leaves your device.
How it works
- Add one or more PDFs.
- Under Selected pages, choose Odd pages only, Even pages only or Specific pages.
- For Specific pages, type an interval such as 2-5,9-11,14,18- into the Pages box, or pick pages in the grid: click one, Shift-click to add a range, Cmd or Ctrl-click to add single pages. The box and the grid stay in step. With several files added there is no grid, only the box.
- Turn on Discard bookmarks if you do not want the outline carried over.
- Click Extract pages and download your new document (or a ZIP if you added several files). By default it keeps the source file's name; open Result file names to change that.
How the page selection works
Specific pages takes commas for a list, a hyphen for a range and a trailing hyphen for "to the end", so 2-5,9-11,14,18- means pages 2 to 5, 9 to 11, 14 and 18 onward. The words odd and even work in the same box, so 1-3,even gives pages 1 to 3 plus every even page. Extra spaces are ignored.
Pages always come out in ascending order and each is used once, so typing 9,2,2 produces pages 2 and 9. Odd pages only and Even pages only count from page 1 of each file. Even pages only on a one-page PDF finds nothing, and the run stops with the message No pages matched for that file.
Several files at once
With more than one file the tool switches to batch mode: one Pages box, applied to every file, and no grid. Each file gives its own PDF, so three inputs give three outputs in a ZIP named extract-pdf-pages-result.zip, while a single input gives a plain PDF. The box checks your interval against the longest file, but each file is checked against its own length when you click Extract pages. If one is too short, nothing is produced and the message names it, for example "notes.pdf: Page 18 is beyond the last page (10)."
Extract Pages never joins files. To gather pages from several PDFs into one, use Add pages in Merge or the grid in Organize.
A worked example
A 40-page lease needs its cover, the terms and the signature pages. Add lease.pdf, leave Specific pages selected and type 1-5,38- into the Pages box. Pages 1 to 5 and 38 to 40 light up in the grid, eight in all. Open Result file names, change the pattern to [BASENAME]-key-pages and click Extract pages. You download lease-key-pages.pdf and lease.pdf is untouched.
What the new file leaves behind
The extracted file is built from copies of the chosen pages, so it does not inherit everything from the source. Bookmarks survive only where they point at an extracted page, renumbered to its new position; ones pointing elsewhere, or using named destinations, are dropped, and Discard bookmarks removes the outline entirely. Title and author are not copied, fillable form fields lose their fillable behaviour, and the file has no password even if the source needed one.
Frequently asked questions
No. Pages are copied as PDF objects exactly as they were, never rendered to an image or recompressed, so text stays selectable and images keep their original resolution.
No. A new PDF is created containing only the pages you chose; the original file is only read, never modified, and it is never uploaded anywhere in the first place.
Bookmarks that point at a page you extracted are kept and repointed to its new page number. Bookmarks pointing elsewhere are dropped, or you can turn on Discard bookmarks to drop the outline entirely.
The same selection (odd, even, or a specific interval) is applied to every file in the batch. Run the tool separately, once per file, if you need a different set of pages from each one.
Odd pages only picks pages 1, 3, 5 and so on; Even pages only picks 2, 4, 6 and so on, counted from the start of each file independently.
Use commas for a list and a hyphen for a range, like 2-5,9-11,14. A trailing hyphen, like 18-, means from that page to the end. Odd and even also work as words in the same box. Pages come out in ascending order whatever order you type them.
Yes. Add the file, enter its password when prompted, and pick pages as usual; the password only unlocks the file locally in your browser. The extracted file is saved without a password.
The PDF is opened, cut down and saved by code running in this tab, and no part of it is sent to a server. One copy does stay on your own device: a local file under 5 MB is held in the Recent files list until you empty it from the Recent files page. What this page cannot do anything about is the browser around it, such as an extension reading the tab or someone else using the same machine.
A number in your interval is higher than that file's page count. The message names the file and its last page, for example "report.pdf: Page 18 is beyond the last page (10)." In a batch each file is checked against its own length, so one short file stops the run; lower the number or extract from that file separately.
Not here: pages always come out in their original order, once each. Extract first, then choose Continue with on the result screen to open the file in Organize and reorder, duplicate or rotate them.
